A feeling of nostalgia is the first thing you get when you see the Nokia C5 for the first time, when I was young we didn't have too much help with what phone is best so we all bought Nokia's. The C5 has been traditionally designed to appeal to the older, business market; the vibrant 2.2inch TFT screen has 320 x 240 QVGA resolutions and re-creates over 16 million colours. Nokia are running the C5 on the Symbian 9.3 OS with an S60 3rd edition interface, a digital camera and FM radio tuner will help keep you entertained while the pre-loaded Ovi package does what it can to improve you user experience.

The stainless steel bodywork gives the C5 a modern look and it feels sturdy and reliable, the basic build quality is of a very high standard. The well sized keys are very smooth and the 2.2inch display is very bright, Nokia have done what they can to ensure a top class user experience whilst maintaining a traditional style with the design. A handy microSD slot allows memory upgrades with a 16GB cap and the USB port enables a smooth PC synchronization process. The interface allows you to create shortcuts to popular contacts; you can receive notifications from your calendar and operate your e-mail via the dedicated widget. Underlining the home screen are a selection or shortcuts to your favourite apps; they can be customized to feature various Ovi apps including the Ovi Store, you can have your camera or even your web browser.

Facebook has been given its own dedicated application where full account management is possible, you're other accounts like Twitter and MySpace can also be handled from the C5 via the web browser, the browser lacks a Wi Fi connection but luckily 3G network is in place to cover that failing with the C5 recognising 3.5G too. The zooming and scrolling controls are simple but the general responsiveness of the browser interface leaves room for improvement; this is an indicator of the phones reasonably low price tag. The Ovi Store is a direct advantage of the C5's online capabilities; it supplies lucky users with a huge selection or downloadable applications, themes, games and wallpapers; this makes the C5 five experience fully customizable.

The Nokia C5 has tons of support for messaging and benefits from e-mail services via the dedicated application on the main menu, the phone not only supports personal accounts with the likes of Hotmail and Gmail all compatible but it also boasts support for ActiveSynch Exchange; this means you can calibrate the device to handle your business accounts too. Instant messaging has been thrown in the mix for the serious messaging crowd; compatible providers include Nokia's free Ovi Chat, GoogleTalk, and WindowsLive Messenger.

Nokia have equipped this semi-smart device with a 3.2 mega pixel camera; it comes with a very good LED flash which doubles as a scene light in video mode, there are a variety of scene settings too including night and sport, the video recorder does a very tidy job of capturing those special moments and you can upload of all of videos and photos to the likes of YouTube and Facebook. The C5 is packed full of great media goodies; a built-in music player will handle all of your tunes and the FM radio will keep you up to date with your favourite shows, a 3.5mm jack allows you to use your personal headphones and the Bluetooth technology makes wireless device communication easy.

Overall the Nokia C5 is a well built, well designed and well loaded piece of kit with great support for e-mail, messaging and media. The phone would be mostly appropriate for business users but it will find uses in the hands of the working class, its low price makes it very accessible, let's just see if Nokia's vintage design can win over the modern day buyers.
